Ex- Plateau Commissioner and lawmaker killed by armed robber

A former commissioner for agriculture under the Jonah Jang administration in Plateau State, Sargwak Wazhi, has been killed by armed robbers along the new Mangu-Barkinkadi Road in the state.

Wazhi and the Chairman of Langtang South Local Government Area, Nicholas Vongsing, were coming from a peace meeting when they ran into a gang of robbers.

The Plateau State Police Public Relations Officer, Mathias Terna, confirmed the incident which he said occurred last Thursday night.

He said the council boss and the driver survived the attack with bullet injuries.

He said, “Wazhi died in the attack but his driver and the Chairman, Langtang South Area Council survived, but they sustained bullet injuries. They are currently receiving medical attention at a hospital. I have not received the full briefing of the incident but investigation has commenced, no arrest has been made.”

Wazhi, a political associate of the Minister of Youths and Sports, Solomon Dalung, was also a Peoples Democratic Party lawmaker in the state assembly in 1999.

Mourning the passage of the former lawmaker, Dalung in an online post, described him as a man of peace and wondered why peaceful men always end violently.

He wrote, “Last two years, the Wazhi family was thrown into mourning in the month of December, when one of his male children was murdered. Instead of celebrating, we were in a mourning mood. This news of his demise is a devastating situation not only for the immediate family but the entire people of Langtang South LGA. So sad, but who will question God? I am only questioning why peaceful men have been ending violently.”
